Paris really is the city of love...
So I was talking to my roommate last night about how we had both noticed an exceptional amount of pregnant women in Paris (I've seen at least one a day since I've been here), and our landlord told us that Paris is the European city with the highest fertility rate. I guess Paris really is the city of love!

I read a news story about this French psychiatrist, Corinne Maier, who has two kids and she wrote a short book about why NOT to have kids. She moved to Belgium because she said she felt suffocated by France's promotion of and obsession with motherhood.

Apparently, there's a motherhood medal in France, and they have a fertility rate of 2.1 children/mother, the highest in continental Europe. There are also a lot of incentives to give birth: 16 weeks maternity leave at full-time pay, and 1,000 euros/month for each child after child no. 2.
